Darian Rodriguez Heyman is an inspiring, dynamic visionary committed to supporting and connecting tomorrow’s nonprofit, business, and environmental leaders. Heyman previously served as Executive Director of Craigslist Foundation (2004–2008) and creator of its Nonprofit Boot Camp, where he worked to advance not just one cause or organization, but the effectiveness of the entire nonprofit sector. Today, Heyman continues his efforts to inspire leaders to action and connect professionals to the resources and best practices they need to build a better world through frequent keynotes and public speaking appearances around the world.

Heyman’s best-selling book, Nonprofit Management 101, has been hailed as the bible of nonprofit leadership, and his second book, Nonprofit Fundraising 101 (Wiley & Sons), the first truly comprehensive and practical guide to raising money for your cause, launched as the #1 new nonprofit release on and quickly reached best-seller status. He co-founded Social Media for Nonprofits (, the world’s only conference series devoted to social media for social good, actively advises the United Nations and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and was appointed as a Commissioner for the Environment by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, where he helped pass the largest solar rebate program in the country. Heyman started his career by co-founding Beyond Interactive, the fastest growing digital advertising agency during the dot com boom, which peaked at almost 400 employees in more than 20 countries after its sale to Grey Advertising, now WPP. Most recently, Heyman co-founded the mobile startup, Sparrow: Mobile for All, which partners with nonprofits and government agencies serving the poor to power their mobile campaigns.

Heyman has delivered keynotes alongside the likes of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Apple Founder Steve Wozniak, presidential candidate Ralph Nader, and United Nations Under-Secretary-General Sha Zukang. He co-hosted both TEDxSoMa and TEDxPresidio, with a focus on the future of social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility and enjoys MCing conferences and creating an educational framework across the various sessions. He has led youth leadership, civil society, and green economy summits for the United Nations Environmental Programme, and has keynoted in Kenya, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, India, Australia, New Zealand and all over the US, including engagements for the State Department, Independent Sector, the Kellogg Foundation, AFP (the Association of Fundraising Professionals), the Grant Professionals Association, and Conference of Southwest Foundations, and a wide range of state nonprofit associations and universities.
